Education Program Manager

As the Lisbon Project’s Education Program Manager, you will have the opportunity to lead the Education Program, one of the five main programs at the Lisbon Project! In this role you will inspire, train and manage a team that is empowering refugees and migrants with the languages and skills they need to integrate and thrive in their new life in Lisbon. 

The Education Program Manager oversees the Education Program Team ensuring year-round planning, execution and quality control of program activities, organizational administration and overall communication. Among other tasks, this position involves developing various  
workshops and courses, sourcing and budgeting supplies, overseeing registration, assessment and evaluation processes and liaising directly with Partner organisations to provide further services. In addition to an array of language courses, the Education Program delivers activities including tutoring for school aged children, arts and dance classes for children, and skills courses for adults. 

You will be responsible for maintaining detailed records on the Lisbon Project’s database, for creating channels for feedback and evaluation, as well as contributing to regular reports for the Directors.  

To be an excellent program manager, you must be a motivational leader, organized and detail-oriented, comfortable working with different people, having strong communication and project management skills and ideally experience in teaching.

Essential duties and responsibilities

Program Management and delivery 

  • Oversee all programming within designated area; develop, coordinate, manage,  implement and evaluate program to maximize participation, outcomes and beneficiary satisfaction. 
  • Supervise program, services, activities and volunteers.
  • Attend weekly Program Manager meetings and contribute to the Program Department tasks. 
  • Participate in organizational planning and budgeting process relating to program. 
  • Be available to teach weekly Portuguese classes to our community. 
  • Deliver existing activities whilst strategically reviewing and planning new impactful projects to meet the educational needs of our community.

Team Leadership

  • Work closely with HR Director to maintain a solid team and lead on recruitment and for your team. 
  • Ensure volunteers are properly trained and capable for successful execution. 
  • Schedule and organize meetings/events and maintain agenda.

 Communication and Organisation

  • Establish close communication with interested beneficiaries about program activities. 
  • Source necessary supplies, curriculums and/or necessary equipment. 
  • Manage and oversee registration processes for all activities within program. 
  • Assist beneficiaries in education related requests, providing essential information about access to educational opportunities within the Lisbon Project as well as facilitating access outside the organization.

Database Management

  • Maintain detailed records of all activities and assessments on the Lisbon Project’s database Aidhound 
  • Follow up and track beneficiaries’ progress within the program, certifying maximum  participation and development. 

Monitoring and Evaluating

  • Develop and monitor methods to capture feedback from beneficiaries and partners to maximise the impact and quality of every activity and service we provide.  
  • Gather program outcomes data and measure results; evaluate and report on program effectiveness in meeting objectives and make recommendations for future program improvements.

Collaboration and Partnerships

  • Develop tailor-made and innovative strategies for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding a portfolio of relevant partners in collaboration with Partnership Manager 
  • Work closely with Fundraising and Communications Department to provide content for social media, newsletters and web. 
  • Represent the Lisbon Project and lead presentations about the organization in educational settings such as local schools. 


  • Fluent in English and Portuguese, other language skills are valued 
  • Demonstrated experience in leading, project managing and delivering effective programs. 
  • Detail-oriented and efficient. 
  • Ability to lead and inspire a team of volunteers 
  • Understanding of data analysis, reporting and budgeting 
  • Experience in teaching, ideally Portuguese.  
  • Knowledge/ experience of developing curriculums and working in the Educational sector is desirable. 
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work demands. 
  • Effective in developing high-potential team members to achieve growth and maximum contribution

  • Experience of working with migrants and refugees is desirable.

Time Commitment: 30 hours a week

Income: To be discussed in initial call/interview.
