Lead Visual Art Teacher

We are currently seeking volunteers to assist in teaching basic art for children between the ages of 4-7 and 8-12 years old. As the Lead Visual Arts Teacher at the Lisbon Project, you will be responsible to plan and implement art classes on Saturday or Sunday afternoon (after 15h00) for two hours each week. Each phase of the course will last minimum three months and classes will be in group settings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create quarterly curriculum plan for art class
  • Plan each class on various aspects of visual art
  • Plan and execute an art exhibition piece to showcase to parents and the Lisbon Project community
  • Be punctual for every class
  • Prepare all the art material, like colors, papers and watercolors before the class, if needed
  • Monitor progress and give feedback to children (and parents) whenever possible
  • Encourage children to love and understand the art of visual art and painting
  • Take attendance
  • Maintain frequent and open communication with the ExpressARTE Coordinator as well as parents of the student


  • Must be energetic
  • Must have the ability to work with children
  • Must have some appreciation and skills for visual
  • Must have the ability to creatively and flexibly solve problems as they arise
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including effective listening
  • Cultural awareness and ability to interact with people from different cultures, genders, religions and backgrounds
  • Needs to present a valid Police Clearance Certificate or two references

Time Commitment: Saturday or Sunday after 15h, 2 hours minimum
