Community dinners volunteer

Time Commitment: 2 hours a week minimum (Wednesdays 18h30 - 20h30)

summary:


As a Community Dinner volunteer you will be a vital member of a team that is making a meaningful impact on refugees and migrants in Lisbon. The Lisbon Project is set on building a community that empowers and integrates migrants and refugees. We value relationship building in all that we do, and the Community Life Department is the central focus of making this all happen, through events, social gatherings and regular excursions.

Your role will help bring our beneficiaries, volunteers and partners together in a social gathering each week at the Lisbon Project. You will be part of a team that creates a safe but fun and entertaining space for community members to be together. Tasks will include welcoming the community members, serving, sharing a meal with the community and ensuring a clean area.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Support welcoming community members.

  • Be part of weekly gatherings, engaging with community members who attend.

  • Be open and present to create meaningful relationships with community members.

  • Be part of the team that serves food and drinks to those attending the dinner.

  • Ensure a clean area at the end of the night by helping clean the kitchen after dinner.

  • Be aware of other activities happening at the Lisbon Project and be a bridge to other services.

Requirements:


  • Must have a fun, creative and outgoing personality.

  • Great verbal communication skills. English or Portuguese is mandatory. Other languages are bonus.

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, ability to create and maintain positive relationships.

  • Must have the ability to creatively and flexibly solve problems as they arise.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team with enthusiasm and initiative.

  • Cultural awareness and ability to interact with people from different cultures, genders, religions, and backgrounds.

  • Dedication and passion for working with people.
