Education Program Assistant (PM)

Time Commitment: 30 hours/week. Minimum commitment of 6 months.

Schedule: 15:00 - 21:00 (Mon - Fri)

Reports to:  Education Manager

Start Date: 27/10/2025


Summary:

The Lisbon Project is a non-profit organization that exists to protect and integrate the lives of migrants and refugees in the city of Lisbon. We are currently seeking an intern to assist the Education Program Manager as the program grows. Your primary responsibilities will be to take care of a variety of administrative organization and management tasks, as well as lead our impactful Portuguese Survival Course. The goal will be to support all tasks necessary to help deliver and manage a successful and expanding Education Program according to the organization’s standards, and to ensure continuity of one of our most demanded and appreciated activity in the program. 



Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Education Program Assistant: 

  • Assist the Education Program Manager with developing the program’s existing services and plan improvements and additions for the future. The most important task in this role is to aid the Education Program Manager in growing and improving the program.  

  • Facilitate effective communication with both program volunteers and activity coordinators to provide valuable support and foster collaboration. 

  • Aid in the planning and organizing of regular team-building events and training workshops.  

  • Responsible for assisting in planning and coordinating events if activities in the program are missing volunteers in certain roles.  

  • Maintaining and updating the Education Program’s records and database with necessary information and creating new resources when required.  

  • Responsible for tracking the progress of beneficiaries within each of the activities to improve participation and satisfaction.  

  • Assist the Education Program Manager in recruiting new volunteers for the activities and aid in presenting them to their roles and to the Lisbon Project.  

  • Organize and oversee registration processes and graduation events for the activities.  

  • Organize and collect feedback on the activities offered to aid in improving the program. 


Portuguese Survival Course Coordinator: 

  • Recruit new volunteer teachers if needed in close collaboration with People & Culture.

  • Onboard volunteer-teachers on how to deliver the curriculum of the Portuguese Survival Course and what the learning goals are.  

  • Ensure volunteer teachers provide attendance data in the records created for that purpose. Also, contact community members on WhatsApp from the Education phone when they miss a lesson. 

  • Oversee the activity in person at LP ensuring volunteer-teachers and community members get the support they need. The Survival Course will take place on Wednesdays from 17:30 to 21:00 at Lisbon Project. 

  • Set up a quarterly review with the community members and the volunteer teachers.  

  • Set up a quarterly meeting with the tutors and team building activities.   

  • Get feedback after each round of courses from the community members as well as from the tutors on the quality and impact of the activity.  


Requirements

  • High proficiency in Portuguese and preferably fluency in English. Other language skills are also valued.  

  • A detail-oriented, efficient, responsible, reliable, and committed person.  

  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work demands.  

  • Interest or experience in education, as well as interest and willingness to learn and develop new skills.  

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including effective listening.    

  • Cultural awareness and ability to interact with people from different cultures, genders, religions, and backgrounds. 

  • Willingness to be added to the necessary WhatsApp Groups.

Schedule: Any 2 weekdays from 10:00-16:00 & Wednesdays 15:00-21:00 in person at Lisbon Project.
