The Lisbon Project is a non-profit organization that exists to protect and integrate the lives of migrants and refugees in the city of Lisbon. We are currently seeking for Portuguese language facilitators to join our exciting Speak & Connect Language Exchange activity. As a language facilitator, your role will involve actively participating in engaging conversational activities, serving as a role model for our community members to enhance their fluency and confidence in Portuguese. Your main duties will include attending sessions, contributing to creative session planning, and interacting with community members during activities.

The goal of this activity is to provide the community with conversational language learning opportunities. The sessions will be aimed at speakers with an A2 or higher level in the language they want to practice. The sessions will be 1.5hs long and will be divided into 45 minutes of Portuguese practice and 45 minutes of English practice with fun guided activities. Participants will be encouraged to connect with a language buddy to further practice outside the Lisbon Project. Sign-up will be required to ensure minimum participation.

Given that this is a new activity, the plan is to pilot it in February and March and launch it on a weekly basis from April 2024. If you would like to be part of the development and growth of this exciting new project, please apply. 😊

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist your coordinator and participate in the planning and preparation of the weekly sessions.

  • Attending one of both sessions in person at Lisbon Project and engage in the activities with the community members for the 45 minutes in which Portuguese will be spoken.

  • Encourage community members to find a language buddy for further speaking practice outside of Lisbon Project.

  • Participate in the quarterly reviews with community members and the other volunteers in your team.

  • Participate in the quarterly meetings with the other members of your team and your coordinator.

  • Follow our safeguarding procedures and make sure everyone is having a great time and practicing speaking in a fun setting.

Requirements:

  • Native or proficient in Portuguese, preferably fluent in English but not essential.

  • Outgoing, social person who likes meeting new people and enjoys talking.

  • Willingness to be added to the necessary WhatsApp Groups.

  • Available to come to Lisbon Project in person to attend either the morning or the evening session, or preferably both!

  • Responsible, reliable, and committed person.

  • Cultural awareness and ability to interact with people from different cultures, genders, religions, and backgrounds.

BenefitS:

  • Working in a team that aims to create impact.

  • Making a considerable difference in the lives of migrants and refugees in Portugal.

  • Work experience in a fun and rewarding environment.

  • Opportunity to practice your English, if interested.

  • Free tea and coffee (like all day long)!

  • Meeting people from all over the world and getting to know their stories.

We can’t do it without you! Thank you for being a part of our team.
