Program Manager (Health and Wellbeing)

As the Lisbon Project’s Health and Wellbeing Program Manager, you will have the opportunity to lead the Health and Wellbeing Program, one of the five main programs at the Lisbon Project!

In this role you will inspire, train and manage a team that is providing access to healthcare and wellbeing activities to enable refugees and migrants to thrive in Lisbon.

You will oversee the Health and Wellbeing Program Team, ensuring year-round planning, execution and quality control of program activities, organizational administration and overall communication.

Among other tasks, this position involves managing a network of healthcare professionals who offer their services to the LP on a pro bono basis, coordinating both in house and external health clinics and developing a calendar of workshops and activities in relation to mental and physical health, nutrition and wellbeing for both adults and children.

The Health Program Manager is responsible for creating lasting partnerships with organisations to provide further services for the LP community.

You will be responsible for maintaining detailed records on the Lisbon Project’s database, for creating channels for feedback and evaluation, as well as contributing to regular reports for the Directors.

Essential duties and responsibilities

Program Management and delivery  

  • Oversee all programming within designated area; develop, coordinate, manage,

implement and evaluate program to maximize participation, quality of service and beneficiary satisfaction.

  • Supervise program, services, activities and volunteers.
  • Ensure existing activities are running to a high standard whilst strategically reviewing and planning new impactful projects to meet the health and wellbeing needs of our community.  
  • Attend weekly Program Manager meetings and contribute to the Program Department tasks.
  • Participate in organizational planning and budgeting process relating to program managment

Team Leadership

  • Schedule and organize meetings/events and maintain agenda.
  • Work closely with HR Director to maintain a solid team and lead on recruitment and for your team.
  • Ensure volunteers/interns are properly trained and capable for successful execution of their roles.

 Communication and Organisation 

  • Manage and oversee registration and booking processes for all activities within program.
  • Assist beneficiaries in health related requests, providing essential information about access to healthcare within the Lisbon Project as well as facilitating access outside the organization.
  • Establish close communication with interested beneficiaries about program activities.
  • Source necessary supplies and/or equipment for health/ fitness activities and clinics.

Database Management and Monitoring and Evaluating

  • Ensure activities are being properly recorded and follow ups and referrals are monitored and tracked
  • Gather program data and measure results; evaluate and report on program effectiveness in meeting objectives and make recommendations for future program improvements.

Collaboration and Partnerships

  • Monitor and expand a portfolio of relevant partners and champions in collaboration with the partnership manager and the health assistant
  • Work closely with Fundraising and Communications Department to provide content for social media, newsletters and web.
  • Represent the Lisbon Project and lead presentations about the organization in relation to Health and Wellbeing.


  • Fluent in Portuguese and English is mandatory (other language skills are valued)
  • Proven experience in project management and delivering effective, quality programming
  • Experience of health and or wellbeing programs is desirable especially valued if within the Portuguese health system
  • Detail-oriented and efficient
  • Ability to lead and inspire a team of volunteers
  • Understanding of data analysis, reporting and budgeting
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work demands

  • Experience of working with migrants and refugees is desirable.
