Support and Information

More than 10 million civilians have fled Ukraine because of the Russian invasion, according to the United Nations (UN).

The Lisbon Project stands with the many who are fleeing in the search of safety and peace. Our hearts break for the pain being inflicted on millions of Ukrainian men, women and children.

We are paying close attention to all the developments regarding the Portuguese Government’s policies to embrace Ukrainian refugees, as well as the response from several NGO’s to this humanitarian crisis.

As an organization, the Lisbon Project’s focus is on building community and creating opportunities for people to connect as they gain knowledge about life in Portugal, participate in our various activities and seek access to services. If you are interested in our support, you can request to register with us by completing the form on this page of our website.

Once registered, you will be connected to our communication platforms and able to sign up for activities such as:

  • Pop up store – monthly event where you can collect clothes, household items and baby items (nappies, wipes, etc)

  • CV Clinics – weekly activity where you have support of volunteers to create/translate your CV

  • Skills training – employment workshops and different skills training courses

  • Legal Clinics – weekly session with a lawyer where you can seek advice

  • Language classes – Portuguese and English classes for adults and children

  • Youth & Kids Explore – various activities for children and teenagers in order to connect with other children in a fun environment

  • Health Clinics – various weekly sessions with health professionals in different areas (Psychology, Gynecology, Chiropractic, Art Therapy, etc)

  • And many others!

Important Note: Most of our services are volunteer led so it is important to note that there may be some delay in accessing them due to the high demand. We promise to work as fast as possible to support you. Thank you for understanding!

For now, even before you’re registered, we would love to welcome you to our regular community event Family Fridays (weekly 4 – 7pm), which is an opportunity to meet other people in Lisbon, connect, have a coffee and tea and relax in the company of good friends :)

Note: This activity is temporarily suspended due to renovations in our facilities.

  • I do not understand how to complete the registration form or I am having difficulties in the process. How can I be helped through the process?
Please contact our Community Communications Manager on the main Lisbon Project number (+351 961 740 421) if you are having difficulty with the form. They will try to help you through the process.
  • Can I participate in LP opportunities if I am not registered as a member of the Lisbon Project community?
While you are welcome to attend our public workshops and events before being registered, we are unfortunately not able to provide 1:1 services to members of the public before they are registered as part of the Lisbon Project community. We will, however, seek to complete your registration within one week of your completing and submitting the form and we will try to re-direct you to appropriate alternative services if you have an urgent request we cannot support with.
  • Can I register if I do not live in Lisbon?
The Lisbon Project community was established and developed to support people integrating into the city of Lisbon. We are therefore not the appropriate organisation to support people integrating into other parts of Portugal or Europe. Again, however, we will try to re-direct you to appropriate alternative services especially if the request is urgent.
  • Can the Lisbon Project get me Portuguese residency?
No, the Lisbon Project is a community-based, volunteer-run organisation. Although we can sometimes help ‘bridge the gap’ through: Portuguese-speaking volunteers supporting in the navigation of a specific bureaucratic process OR a member of the legal team providing advice. We cannot make residency applications on behalf of beneficiaries. The Lisbon Project’s mission is rather to empower its community members to themselves take the steps required in the legalisation process.
  • Can the Lisbon Project get me a job?
No, the Lisbon Project is a community-based, volunteer-run organisation. We do aim to increase our members’ chances of finding employment through: Job-matching through partners CV-editing, and Mentorship support. We cannot give beneficiaries jobs directly. The Lisbon Project’s mission is to empower its community members to gain employment for themselves.
  • How can I access opportunities or request support after I am registered as a member of the Lisbon Project community?
Once your registration is confirmed and you have added the Lisbon Project number to your phone, you will start to receive regular WhatsApp messages with the highlights and full listings of LP opportunities which you can sign up for. In order to access these opportunities, you simply need to respond to those messages and/or follow the sign-up instructions provided in the WhatsApp message; on our internal Community News Page or on the Facebook Community Group which you will also be able to access after you are registered with us! If you request to join a CarePod (a group of community members and volunteers who speak the samelanguage), you will also be able to request advice about accessing support from the group you are connected with. We must make clear from the start, however, that neither CarePods nor the wider Lisbon Project organisation is set up to respond in crisis/emergency situations and, while we will seek to support you accessing more appropriate services if needed (some found here), we also ask that you understand the limitations of what we can do as a community-based and volunteer-run organisation.
  • What is a CarePod?
A CarePod is a smaller group of community members and volunteers who speak the same language and get connected through WhatsApp groups and smaller pod gatherings. Members of these groups get to know each other and support each other accessing LP and other Lisbon opportunities. If you would be interested in joining a CarePod, please let us know in the registration form or afterwards by sending a message to our Community Communications Manager on the main LP number (+351 961 740 421).
