Visual Art Teacher Assistant

We are currently seeking volunteers to assist in teaching basic art for children between the ages of 4-7 and 8-12 years old. As a visual art teacher ́s assistant at the Lisbon Project, you will be responsible to assist the lead teacher in planning and implementing art classes teaching the basic skills of art and painting once a week for two hours. Each phase of the course will last for a minimum of three months and classes will be in group settings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan each class with the Lead Visual Art Teacher
  • Be punctual and prepared for each class, and step in, in case the lead teacher is unavailable
  • Assist teacher in keeping children interested and focused on the task
  • Support the lead teacher on giving feedback to children whenever possible
  • Inspire children to appreciate art and painting
  • Take attendance and follow up on students who have missed classes
  • Maintain frequent and open communication with the ExpressARTE Coordinator as well as parents of the student

Requirements:

  • Must be creative and energetic
  • Must have the ability to work with children
  • Must have some appreciation and skills for art
  • Must have the ability to creatively and flexibly solve problems as they arise
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including effective listening
  • Cultural awareness and ability to interact with people from different cultures, genders, religions and backgrounds
  • Needs to present a valid Police Clearance Certificate or two references

Time Commitment: Saturday or Sunday after 15h, 2 hours minimum
